Spatial Design Short Course

The Spatial Design Short Course explores the creative possibilities of interior and spatial design practice in education and industry. During the course students are guided through the creative process of a typical project to design an installation to be exhibited in Mies van der Rohe’s German Pavilion in Barcelona. This will include an appraisal of the site, construction method, materials and detail and the consideration of a range of site conditions including light, air, orientation and circulation. The course offers an insight into key areas of spatial design including sight (fields and cones of vision), light (natural and artificial) and inhabitation (circulation and movement). Students build their knowledge of the design process by working through various steps including sketching a site freehand, measuring and surveying a site to scale, drawing and modelling a site to scale and presenting a final proposal.
