The training workshop on ‘Domestication of the National Policy on Gender in Education’ was designed and delivered by IIEP-UNESCO, with the support of UNESCO Abuja, in close coordination with the Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria and in the framework of the Gender at the Centre Initiative. The workshop took place at the Crystal Guest House (Keffi, Nigeria), from 21st to 25th November 2022. The workshop was designed to strengthen the capacity of representatives from three States (Jigawa, Kaduna and Kwara) and the Federal Ministries of Education and parastatal organs to integrate into their corresponding annual action plans activities allowing for the implementation of the Nigerian National Policy on Gender in Education at the state level. Upon completion of the workshop, participants should be able to: • To identify and analyse the main gender inequalities in education in participants’ specific fields of intervention, to understand how these inequalities manifest and are perpetuated in specific contexts; • To identify and discuss the relevance, effectiveness and sufficiency of activities currently carried out by federal and state actors in line with the NPGE stated vision and orientations; • To explore alternatives for mainstreaming gender into the annual action plans of the Federal and State Ministries of Education for the effective implementation of the NPGE, with a particular focus on basic education; • To identify and discuss intergovernmental cooperation and sustained funding mechanisms which enable the effective implementation of activities in line with the NPGE, with a particular focus on the role of the Universal Basic Education Commission and State Universal Basic Education Boards.
