2022. Crisis-sensitive educational planning and the refugee inclusion agenda

The IIEP-UNESCO online course on ‘Crisis-sensitive educational planning and the refugee inclusion agenda: Training for UNHCR in East Africa’ was organized for UNHCR staff in six countries in East Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda. The course aimed to enhance the capacities of UNHCR staff to support ministries of education to plan for the inclusion of refugees in national education systems, and to enhance cross-country collaboration and knowledge sharing among UNHCR staff. Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to: (1) Explain the key concepts, principles, and planning implications for the multiple pathways towards inclusion, (2) Use education data and information to inform inclusion policy and planning, (3) Assess policies, plans, and programmes that address the education needs of refugees and host communities, (4) Explain the importance of using projections and simulation models for crisis-sensitive planning, (5) Evaluate strategies to advance the inclusion agenda across country contexts. Participants spent an average of three to five hours a week during eight weeks on course content and activities.
