Mixed Media Printmaking Short Course

Ana-Maria Pintea

The Mixed Media Printmaking Short Course is a skills-based and demonstration-led short course. During the course, students explore themes and compositional ideas using both colour and black and white printed collage methods. These outcomes are then translated into handmade printmaking techniques. The course guides students through various techniques, including the use of intaglio and relief print presses. Students use the processes they have learnt to print onto different flat surfaces, including found source imagery, specialist printmaking papers, fabrics, latex and light-coloured wood. Several topics are covered including mono-printing, cyanotypes, photo polymer etching, chine collé, collagraphs, vinyl cut printing and blind embossing/de-bossing. By the end of the course, students should have developed thought processes such as colour theory and composition which can be applied to many art and design disciplines, including painting, drawing and photography.
