The Art of Social Engagement Online Short Course

Students on The Art of Social Engagement Online Short Course gain an insight into how creative practices can be combined to work with social engagement, participation, learning and education programmes in museums, galleries and cultural organisations. Using case studies of past and current social engagement projects, students learn how to analyse what constitutes a successful project, as well as understanding the finer details of project proposals, budgeting, funding streams and evaluation processes. Through a combination of discussion, collaborative group work and practical exercises, the course inspires and encourages students to begin programming, curating, devising and facilitating their own social engagement projects or concepts. The course explores the ethics around social engagement and how they operate within a wider social context. Several topics are covered during the week, including planning, budgeting, developing a critical framework, writing a proposal, funding and evaluating impact. By the end of the course, students will have developed a greater understanding of social engagement, through researching and critiquing. Students will also have a finalised project proposal, with a strategy on how to approach museums, galleries and cultural organisations.
