The Visual Merchandising and Display Online Short Course offers students an overview of the practical techniques and methods that are used in the industry today. Students develop their understanding of the key concepts in visual merchandising and start to build a portfolio of fashion window designs.
During the course, students work on a series of practical assignments using various mediums to create great windows and store layout concepts. This gives them the opportunity to apply all the core skills of visual merchandising.
The course covers several topics including window dressing principles, product presentation methods, merchandising techniques, colour, lighting, sales promotions and mannequin styling.
By the end of the course, students will have:
• Developed a good understanding of the key visual merchandising principles
• Practised using colour, lighting and graphics in their displays
• Learnt techniques to create 'hotspots' or promotions space
• Gained an understanding of how to use floor layouts for excellent customer flow
• Researched current merchandising trends and used these to inspire their own displays
• Considered how to make their displays correspond with a brand identity
• Learnt to create strong messages from their displays
• Created a range of their own displays and presented them to the group
