The Sustainable Pattern Cutting and Draping Short Course explores different sustainable and zero waste design and pattern cutting techniques.
The course covers approaches to sustainable pattern cutting using draping and fabric manipulation techniques. Students re-purpose existing clothing and draping on the stands, and explore techniques for deconstruction; re-styling and adapting existing garments to create new styles.
Several topics are covered during the course, including fabric manipulation techniques, zero waste pattern cutting and repurposing clothing in new ways. Students are encouraged to conduct research and make a mood board which they may use to create their own designs.
By the end of the course, students should have an awareness of four different approaches to sustainable pattern cutting and draping. They should also have presented their own final garment using some of the techniques learnt.
