Hand-Sewing for Couture and Bespoke Fashion Short Course

The Hand-Sewing for Couture and Bespoke Fashion Short Course aims to help students develop their skills. Starting with a simple running stitch, students work on a series of projects designed to help them perfect their skills and build up speed. The course focuses on creating a reference book of hand sewn samples to add to a portfolio of work. Students gain an understanding of a number of stitches including even basting, back stitch, chain stitch, blanket stitch, buttonhole stitch and whip stitch. During the course, students gain an insight into how to present stitch samples, make a pin cushion and miniature petticoat, thread elastic through a waistband and transfer dart positions from pattern to fabric. Students finish the course with a range of hand stitching skills, an insight into what they are used for and the confidence to teach themselves more.
