On the beginner’s Draping Womenswear Design Short Course students develop an
understanding of the principles of draping and how various fabrics can be manipulated by twisting, folding, gathering and layering to produce the most amazing results.
The course introduces the origins of draping and historical costumes and explores examples of draping in contemporary fashion. Students learn practical skills such as experimenting on a dummy, how to mark a garment and the various methods of draping.
Students work on a series of collages and sketches to document their inspiration and develop ideas, and go on to design garments based on their draping designs. They will learn to work with fabric on a dummy to develop and build ideas for shapes and details for a fashion collection.
