The Chelsea Open Studio Short Course offers students the opportunity to develop their painting practice independently under the guidance of a respected professional artist.
Students select the medium of their choice and are encouraged to explore their own personal working methods whilst cultivating their individual expression and visual language. Particular emphasis is given to developing a painting from reference material, as well as the evaluation and evolution of a composition.
There are no projects and no limitations. The course actively encourages variety and individuality with short talks and lectures and preparation for exhibiting.
Topics covered:
• The mechanics and process of painting
• Pigments, various painting mediums and colour values
• Glazing and scumbling and the importance of under-painting
• Exploring classical and alternative supports and methods of mark making
By the end of the course students will have:
• Developed their confidence and identity as an artist
• Gained experience which may also lead to art submissions and future exhibitions
• Developed new skills
• Experienced life on campus
