Mixed Media Painting Short Course

The Mixed Media Painting Short Course is designed to help students expand their knowledge of contemporary painting, materials, concepts and techniques. During the course, students explore a range of new techniques and materials to create contemporary artworks which are built up through layers. Practical demonstrations help students work within a framework whilst encouraging freedom to generate individual ideas. The works produced may be added to a portfolio for application to further study. Students experiment with colour, dripping, pouring, glazing, collage, surface texture, photo transfer, wax and resin. Several topics are covered including masking techniques, photo transfer and collage, oil paints, and priming and stretching canvas. By the end of the course, students will have had the opportunity to: • Learn how to prepare a support for their mixed media pieces • Learn how to explore their ideas as they build up materials through layers • Practice a range of contemporary mixed media painting techniques • Experiment with specialist materials • Explore the work of other mixed media artists
