The Interior Lighting Design Online Short Course teaches students how to design with light.
During the course, students gain an insight into the factors that should be considered when planning a lighting scheme, as well as how to calculate lighting levels, position fittings and create the desired mood within a space. Students work on a range of mood boards and sketches to develop their own range of lighting solutions and ideas in response to industry style briefs.
Students also learn how to draw up a lighting plan featuring various types of lighting and specify the fittings required as they design a scheme for a specific space. This results in a final design illustrating a fully-formed lighting plan, which may be added to a portfolio.
The course covers several topics including lighting effects, beam angles, fittings, focal points and sightlines, layouts, colours and materials, as well as how to prepare a client brief and communicate ideas.
By the end of the course, students will have an understanding of the fundamental principles of the lighting design process. They will also have gained an insight into how to use artificial and natural lighting within various interior spaces and developed their knowledge of the technology needed to create lighting effects.
