Serena Bilmen
This 5-week course explores Blender’s diverse applications beyond animation. Students learn how to create both low poly and realistic renders, as well as 3D printable home decorations and jewellery.
The course covers everything from low poly modelling and subdivision (sub-D) modelling, to texturing and importing existing data created with a 3D scanner. Projects include 3D modelling a low poly landscape, rendering a realistic still life and designing various objects such as a coaster, a ring and a desk clock.
After completing this practical short course, students will be able to create low poly renders, produce well-lit realistic objects with accurate textures and design 3D models suitable for 3D printing. They will also understand how to import and repair externally downloaded 3D models for 3D printing.
Course outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
Understand the Blender interface
Create low poly renders
Produce realistic renders with accurate materials and textures
Understand UV unwrapping and PBR texturing
Create 3D models suitable for 3D printing
Import and inspect externally downloaded 3D models for 3D printing suitability
