Modern Art Theory through Practice Short Course

Stefania Chaves
On the Modern Art Theory through Practice Short Course, students explore contemporary art through a combination of critical theory, practice and visiting galleries.
Students get a view of the London art world, visiting some of London's art galleries and museums, as well as alternative art spaces, framed around a set of references that begin to ask questions about what art is and what it is for.
Students learn through a mixture of lectures and practical workshops, creating a research journal based on topics explored and in response to exhibition visits. This journal may be added to a portfolio and will demonstrate their understanding of the art world and contemporary art theory.
Topics covered:
Identity politics
Surrealism
Conceptualism
