Oil Painting Level 2 Short Course

On the Oil Painting Level 2 Short Course students build on their existing skills and explore avenues of diverse techniques in oil painting. During the course, students use varied working methods to expand their expression and confidence using the medium. Students learn how to create mood and atmosphere using colour harmony and contrasts, gain an understanding of saturation and values, and practice effective colour mixing techniques. The course covers several topics including colour harmonies, grisaille painting, glazing and alternative preparatory drawing methods. The focus is on direct painting without the use of drawing or preparatory line in order to achieve a fresh and energetic painting. By the end of the course, students should have: • Gained the tools to develop to an advanced stage as a painter • Explored new techniques and approaches to oil painting • Developed a clearer understanding of their potential as an artist by gaining a broader understanding of the medium of oil paint
