Introduction to Digital Pattern Cutting for Production Short Course
Xhenifer Nuredinaj
The Introduction to Digital Pattern Cutting for Production Short Course offers an overview of how computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing can be applied to the traditional skills of pattern cutting, grading, lay planning and fashion design.
During the course, students learn to use various CAD/CAM software packages which include Adobe Illustrator, Gerber and Optitex 3D. Several topics are covered including computerised pattern development techniques, pattern input via digitising and line drawings.
The course teaches students how to use Adobe Illustrator for specification sheets and technical drawing skills for a garment. Students then move on to using Gerber for pattern development and creating a pattern to industry standards for a garment. They also gain an insight into how to use Gerber for pattern grading as well as layplanning and costing.
The Introduction to Digital Pattern Cutting for Production Short Course also offers students the opportunity to practise using Optitex 3D for sewing and fitting a garment onto a virtual model.
By the end of the course, students will have had the opportunity to network and share ideas with other students and received feedback on assignments.
