Documentary Storytelling Short Course

The Documentary Storytelling Short Course is designed to give students a thorough understanding of the craft of storytelling in documentaries. Through discussion and exercises, students explore approaches to storytelling and discuss how to create a narrative around a theme. The course covers several topics including story structures, scene-based storytelling, theme-based storytelling, characters and narrators, research, production and visual storytelling. By the end of the Documentary Storytelling Short Course, students should have a deeper understanding of story structure, as well as the confidence and ability needed to tell a story in a variety of documentary and factual filmmaking styles. They should also have expanded their knowledge of storytelling in documentary and factual filming.
