Through a combination of classroom discussions and practical exercises, the Textiles for Beginners Short Course will equip you with the skills needed to create a textile print design.
During the course, students develop a range of paint techniques for textile print design which may be further developed digitally and create a small collection of prints on paper. Students gain an insight into how textile designers work and learn how to put a print collection together.
Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, you'll explore a variety of techniques and strategies that you can use to refine and develop your ideas. You’ll also gain knowledge of how to research ideas for the textile print design market.
Students will be expected to work 2.5 hours outside of class.
Course outcomes
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
Understand the practical knowledge of how to create a textile design print
Identify common themes in textile print, e.g. florals, geometrics
Create a small collection of prints on paper
Take found imagery and use it as inspiration for their own work
Understand different roles available in the textile print industry
Develop a range of paint techniques for textile print design
