Introduction To Product Design Short Course

Paul Featherstone

The Introduction To Product Design Short Courses offers an insight into what practicing product design involves. Students are encouraged to look for ways of arriving at new possibilities. With an emphasis on the creative process and self-direction, the course guides students through the design process from an initial brief through to their own finished product design and presentation. Practice-based projects guide students through the language and practices of product design. The Introduction To Product Design Short Course is studio-based and has a focus on the generation of ideas and design thinking. Students explore how to represent design concepts through drawing exercises and how to document ideas through sketches and photographs. They will also be introduced to a number of processes and vocabulary employed in 3D design. The course covers professional terminology, 2D and 3D design, sketch-drawing, studio soft model making, design development, manufacturing processes, orthographic drawing and presentation.
