Stone Setting In Silver Jewellery Short Course
Hours studied 25

Georgina Cole
The Stone Setting In Silver Jewellery Short Course offers a valuable introduction to basic stone setting techniques for students who have some experience of fabricating silver jewellery.
Gemstones have been used in jewellery for thousands of years, creating a colourful contrast to the metal in which they are set. Students on the Stone Setting In Silver Jewellery Short Course explore several different styles of stone setting.
During the course, students work on a range of set projects to create several pieces of jewellery with cabochons and faceted cuts of semiprecious gemstones.
The course covers a number of topics including how to fabricate flush, rub-over and prong set jewellery from fine and sterling silver, and how to construct handmade mounts. Students also learn which types of stones are most suitable for particular settings and gain an insight into their physical properties.
