Contemporary Collage Short Course
Hours studied 25

On the Contemporary Collage Short Course students learn how to use a broad range of new mixed media techniques and visual elements from a variety of sources. The course is designed to help students find their own voice in the world of collage.
During the course, students create unexpected images and make unusual juxtapositions, assemblages and visual collisions.
Through a series of practical workshops, students discover collage as a tool for thinking, realising ideas, and enriching their work. By working in this way, students learn how to transform image, apply layering and juxtaposition and mix painting techniques with collage.
By the end of the course, students should have:
• An understanding of the history of collage and its relevance today
• Developed the technical ability to use a range of materials with confidence
• Produced a large number of diverse collage pieces
• Had the opportunity to create ideas and meaning using altered images
• Learnt how to use intuition and irrationality as well as logic and reason to create imagery
