Introduction to Pattern Making Online Short Course

The Introduction to Pattern Making Online Short Course introduces students to the basic techniques for womenswear pattern cutting. During the course, students learn to work with size 10 basic blocks and explore various techniques to create styles of skirt, sleeves and bodices, with the aim of bringing these elements together to create their own garments. Students work on a number of set practical assignments to develop their skills and receive guidance on how to improve their work. The course covers several topics including seam allowance, bodice blocks, pivoting darts, style lines, tools, pattern cutting terminology and grain lines. By the end of the course, students will have: • Developed confidence in pattern cutting through practical demonstrations and assignments • Learnt how to pivot darts and manipulate blocks to create new styles • Learnt to take measurements from the body and make basic fitting adjustments • Learnt how to add balance lines, grain lines, seam allowances, notches and cutting instructions to their pattern pieces
