Intermediate Ceramics Short Course

Kimberly van Tongeren

The Intermediate Ceramics Short Course is a practice-led intermediate short course for students and professionals who have a basic knowledge of working with clay. The course is ideal for students who would like to further explore the processes of ceramic production. During the course, students learn about the design and manufacture stage of ceramic practice with an emphasis on plaster turning, profiling and mould-making for press-moulding and slip-casting applications. These activities are the founding principles for a range of different ceramic design outcomes. Students work on a range of projects on the Intermediate Ceramics Short Course and have the opportunity to create tiles, lighting, tableware, vessels and other bespoke products that benefit the material. Students may also develop a prototype or model. They will also be able to experiment on the clay surface using different techniques throughout the course.
