The Introduction to Knitwear Design Online Short Course has been designed for those considering a career in the knitwear industry who would like to learn about yarns, stitch, techniques and design etc, or anyone wanting to learn a new craft.
This course explores the fundamentals of knitwear, such as yarn properties, hand knitting techniques and texture. Students learn how to create swatches and hand sketch their own knitwear designs.
There is an emphasis on different yarn properties and texture in order for students to create their own designs, these are developed with reference to hand knitting techniques and hand-sketched illustrations.
Students are encouraged to analyse current knitwear trends and look at luxury knitwear designers who incorporate key knitwear pieces into their collections in order to gain a good understanding of knitwear and how it can be applied to their own designs.
By the end of the course students will have an understanding of;
• Knitwear trends and designers
• Different yarns and their properties
• Textures, yarns counts and compositions
