Experimental Film Online Short Course

Hannah Kemp-Welch

The Experimental Film Online Short Course explores moving image and sound. The course introduces students to the fundamentals of film, video and installation from production to post-production focusing on experimentation and moving image in the expanded field. The course offers a look into using documentary, fiction, moving image and sound installation methods to gain an understanding of approaches to communicating ideas through filmmaking media. There is a focus on working between different disciplines - documentary, feature and art installation. Students on the Experimental Film Online Short Course are encouraged to be innovative in their work and think outside the conventional interpretations of the subjects covered. The course is taught through a series of exercises, lectures, workshops, demonstrations, visits and individual tuition. Students also have the opportunity to work on an individual project. By the end of the course, students should be able to edit video and film into a sequence to integrate into moving image work. They should also be able to edit a soundtrack into a sequence for a short film and have an understanding of the stages of production and post-production in relation to video and film.
